Galdhøpiggen 2008

July 2008 I decided to climb the highest peak in Norway. Just for the record, you can do this on your feet. No ropes required.

The highest mountain in Norway, 2469 meters above sea level. Picture taken from the last leg after passing the glacier.

I was there for sure… really!

July.. and snow is meling in the mountains…

You are not allowed to remove or bring with you any rocks from this area… no, its not the moon..

The first leg of the trip to the top its through this rocky landscape …

Second leg. All participants have to put on a harness, to walk with an attached line, in case any fall into a cravas walking the glacier. No kidding!

The peak in sight, last rest before the steepest climb to the top.

At the top the home made cocoa and sandwiches tasted heavenly as one ejoyed the wiev…

The kiosk at the top, selling artifacts prooving you had been there.. including the oh so standard t-shirts…

After a short rest we all started the climb down, which was much easier than getting up..

The mountains seem mighty compared to the humans at ants size moving arround.. or so they look like…

Wiev to the second largest peak in Norway, Glittertind.

All trails are marked with a red T by the Norwegian Tourist Association.

The last 2 nights I had to sleep in my tent at the foot of the mountain, not as cold as you might think…
